Beginning
- Focusing Activity = Picture of a Defunct Library
As the saying goes, we can, "If we fail to plan, we plan to fail."
Collections Management is first and foremost an administration process.
When you see this picture, what do you think might have happened to explain why this library no longer exists?
Main Content
- Lecture = Needs Assessment
- Lecture = Developing (e.g. selection, acquisition) and Managing collections (e.g. de-selection, storage, preservation)
Class Closure
- Learning Consolidation & Check-In
Activity: Brainstorming formats & Acquisition Criteria
1. With your homework group, find another group of a different number so we have groups around the classroom of 5-6.
2. Briefly introduce to the other groups what formats your groups have been chosen (and, if ready, why)
3. Next, together brainstorm ways items that would be included in a list of Criteria when and when not certain items will be included in this Special Formats collection
Note: For those groups who have already prepared this criteria, they can instead chose to work on the Selection, De-Selection, or Maintenance criteria for their Special Formats collection
4. Next, chose a designated speaker for each homework group to report back to the class the brainstormed list
